Georgia High Schools Preparing Their Students for College

Abstract

High school is a prominent part of a student?s educational journey. The basic necessities of life should be taught in high school; however in the twentieth century teachers, who are the qualified professionals in this instance, educate children on competing with the rigor meter. The purpose of high school should be to prepare students for success beyond post-secondary education. Of course every school wants to report that their students are meeting the educational requirements set by the Department of Education (DOE). To do so schools must be teaching based on standards that meet the requirements. This leads to the purpose of this social studies fair project which is to determine whether schools, primarily in the state of Georgia are preparing students for college. I plan on creating a student based survey to gather my data, as well as researching the state of Georgia?s educational sites for information to support my claim that schools in the state of Georgia have not been preparing their students for college and careers. Concluding to reading you will learn that until recently Georgia had not been adequately preparing their students for college readiness. That is until they adopted common core standards and programs that are based on doing so, retiring the performance standards that consisted of solely wanting to compete with the rigor meter and other schools.
